Hey, I'm looking to apply to do a join degree, majoring in french. any tips or advise you would give? I know no-one else who has even considered a degree in language, and don't know what to expect. Anything you would pass on?

well, I am also studying for a linguistics degree- its fantastic. as for a career option, i am not sure of what you eventually want to do. besides when choosing a subject to read you should go for something that you are truly passionate about, as you will be reading it for 3 years. goodluck

Why not do a joint degree in French and law, one which would give you access to a career in either country? It would be hard work, but a marvellous qualification to have. I read some alarming statistics the other day about the number of recent modern languages graduates who were either unemployed or settling for non-graduate jobs. It is a good idea to give some thought to what you eventually plan to do with your degree. Of course, some people go to university purely for enjoyment and you may be one of them, in which case, go ahead and have a good time doing whatever you opt for!

One of my friends is studying at Edinburgh University. That is a good university for languages. Also Oxford is good for languages one of the people i did work experience with there and she studied 2 languages one of those was French. Hope that helps that's 2 universities. Also ask your teachers they should be able to help you find a university that teaches languages.

Depending on where you want to go to uni, I know that Exeter used to offer this course. They also offered French/law - not sure about linguistics though.

From when my daughter was investigating a modern languages degree, I know that we visited Hull, Leicester, Exeter and Durham before she settled on Exeter (studying French/German - but she preferred literature)
