Any Princess, including Ariel (since the lIttle mermaid is released soon), Hermione (from HP), Anne (from Anne of Green Gables), Pipi Longstocking, Laura Ingalls (or Mary, or Carrie, even the baby), Anastasia, Mary (from any Christmas story), Sara Crewe (A Little Princess), the girl in Misty of Chintitigue(sp?), if she's REALLY young, Zoe from Sesame Street, any American Girl, or check out Dear America or My Name is America for other period outfits. Heidi, Fern (CHarlotte's Web), Tinker Bell, Alice (in Wonderland), that's all that are coming to mind. Good luck! Get creative.

Classic? Why classic? What sex?
I am a big fan of Nate the Great, the detective. Harry Potter also.
I think going as the girl from Charlotte's Web would be endearing, complete with stuffed pig. Also, Ramona? Sheila the Great? Wendy from Peter Pan?

She could go as Little Bo Peep. That would be cute with a little shepards white cane.

Dress him/her up as Dr Seuss' "Cat in the Hat". It's sure to be the best costume

You don't say if your child's a boy or girl. Alice in wonderland for a girl.
