You have to insert the disc, then shut down windows completely. Then when you turn it back on as normal it will ask if you want to boot from disc, press enter and it will completely reboot your system. It may take a bit of time though. When you insert the disc, dont run it just switch off your system and back on again.

1. Ensure that the CD/DVD drive is the first bootable device. U need to go into the BIOS at boot. Normally the delete key or F2. Put the XP CD in the drive and re-boot the PC
2. If the above is correct a screen will say press any key to boot from CD. Do so.
3. The XP install will start. You will be prompted to install Windows. Agree and continue. Windows will search for previous installations of XP. If found you have the option to do a repair.
4 The option is "press "R" to repair.
5. Select this option! It will repair your installation and most of your installed apps will continue to work!

The licence key it is outlined on your buddy's laptop is what's everyday as an aftermarket key. this means that the laptop became shipped with homestead windows XP preinstalled, and the biggest had already been shown as real earlier your buddy offered the laptop. in spite of the undeniable fact that - in case you employ an XP disk to reformat, and then attempt and use the biggest on the case, it won't validate as OEM keys can purely be shown as quickly as. often with off the shelf computers, they incorporate a restoration partition on the rigidity which restores the confusing rigidity to the state it became in whilst your buddy first have been given it homestead. the way of commencing the restoration technique varies from seller to seller - in case you may desire to grant the make/style of the laptop then training can take transport of. often, the restoration partition is accessed once you boot the laptop via pressing a particular key mixture, which includes F11. Why not bypass to the information superhighway website of the producer of the laptop and locate the handbook, which will grant information on a thank you to restoration the laptop to its unique state.

Why do a complete reinstall? If your computer is fairly new (less 2 years old) your should be able to reset it to factory settings. That would bring it back to the state it was in when you first purchased it. It's called a "system restore" . Search your system for "system restore", If it comes up, use it. If not, you'll have to follow some or all of the suggestions you've already received.

Good Luck! Doing a complete reinstall can be a bear.

if Kelly's d answer doesn't work you may have to go in the BIOS o make it read your CD before it reads the hard drive also make sure that the disk you have is correct. In mine there are three disks, the first two are windows the third is software that was originally installed.

If you want the system the way u bought it then you will want to format your drive, that erases ALL information on your drive.if you just want to reinstall windows then insert the disk, restart system, then it will ask you what u want to do,it will prompt u to boot from cd,choose yes.choose reinstall windows.if you are not sure on what u are doing u mite want someone to help u threw.you can't really mess it up as long as you READ what it is telling u.U would be wise to check some information online as to the process just to make it clear on what u are about to do.
