Well I read some the other answers and yes sometimes the skimpy costumes win but it depends on what type of party you are going to, one with young people at a college or an older crowd
with a little most class? I find that if you wear a unique costume
you can usually win. One year I was a Futuristic/Prehistoric cave woman and all it was a black one piece bathingsuit, ripped fishnet
stockings,and those dark green leaf trash bags one cut-out for a top w/arm open over the shoulder the other side torn in shredds. the bottom was also the trash bags made like a skirt torn to shredds also as short or as long as you like the top of the bag has a draw string! Then I bought the neon hair spray and sprayed the outfit w/diff. colors ,ratted my hair put on cool white and brown eye make-up with the stripe across my eyes, put the left-over shredds of bags around feet, arms, and sprayed stripes with hair colors on my skin. I WON 1st PLACE EVERY TIME W/THIS COSTUME YOU CAN MAKE IT SEXY OR NOT! Then there is always ELVIRA-that costume never fails to win.,or dressing up like a little girl with a short dress pig-tails, ruffled bloomers,thigh-high socks, maryjane shoes,freckles and a lollypop-big ones like at DISNEYLAND. A really good fun costume is to dress like your favorite actress that you most look like and dress like that person it's fun to be someone else for a day! Hope This Helps!

Something feminine, pretty, and sexy. Personally, I don't think it's slutty to wear a sexy outfit on Halloween. It's the only time most people can get away with it. LOL. Don't wear something bulky or masculine looking.
And I am betting that's exactly what the answerer above me did, judging by the term "extreme outfits." I notice that she didn't mention exactly what they were... =P

Seriously, last year my husband and I had our makeup professinally done and had extreme outfits and we entered into a halloween contest and lost to some slutty girls wearing bra and underwera and wings.
