What is your opinion of "black on black" crime? Is it a real phenomenon? If so, why does it occur?

I live outside of DC and the biggest factors we have for black on black crime here are 1) drugs (deals gone bad, etc) 2) repayment for violence against familiar ("you shot my homeboy so now I'm shootin' you) 3) intrusion on domestic situation ("what do you think you're doin' comin' up on my woman like that?")

I don't know that I'd call that a phenomenon. In many parts of DC, the population is predominently black... so most crimes would be black on black because there's such a small handful of whites living in those areas.

I will tell you that the concept that there's a bunch of "racial unrest" in areas like DC is just a boatload of crap. I don't have a problem stopping and asking for directions (I'm white) and I've never had a black person be rude to me for asking, much less violent for no reason just because I was white. There are whites who hate blacks all over and blacks who hate whites all over. I don't sense as much racial tension in DC as I do aggressive behavior due to the frustration of living in poverty and feeling trapped to that. But... that's just my perception and it's just DC.

the city I live in is about 60% black. most all of the crimes committed are blacks doing it to blacks. It is very real. I think the reason is because most of the blacks that live here are poor and they really dont care if they go to jail or not. so if someone gets out of line or beats you at a game of Madden 07 pop a cap in their ***. (that has happened by the way)

I think it's a shame. I believe in unity, not just among our own race, but as a whole... Now, black on black crimes is worst coz there enuff pain and suffering in the world today, and if we dont even have love for our own race, then we'll only leave space to discriminate, and that will only generate hate...

I think its way to sensationalized, do people really understand how it hurts people who are victims? I dont think so.
