The paper in my birth control claims that you have to only have to use a condom or other forms of birth control for the first 7 days. But that kind of makes me leary. But why would they say that if it wasn't true? What do you think?

I guess i should say that this is my first time taking it AFTER I just had my son on August 9th.

I agree with you. It does sound kinda too good to be true but they wouldn't print that if they had no basis for it. They wouldn't want girls becoming pregnant while taking their pills.
I would still play it safe and use another form of birth control until you finish your next period. Three extra weeks of safer sex is nothing in comparison to a lifetime with child.

The package insert is based on 40+ years of data, so you can trust it.

To the responder above, your body does not release eggs on a new schedule when you go on the Pill; the Pill works by stopping ovulation altogether.

It takes about a month for your body to be in sync with the medication & be releasing your eggs on the new "schedule". I assume that you are NOT breastfeeding your new baby if you are taking birth control pills, if you are breastfeeding him, then you really don't need birth control, but that's another subject matter!

When I started my pills I used condoms as well for a full month just to be on the safe side.

usually with my x-girlfriends they have already been on the pill.. but one of them wasn't.. and the doc told her to go one month with another form of birth control because it would take that long for her body to completely adjust and to be as effective as it could be.

My doctor says a month. Better safe than sorry, and it's not like it's a huge deal to use condoms for a month.

Yes it's 7 days before you are fully protected if you are starting taking it during your period. Women usually find the best time to start taking it is on the sunday during your period.
