This is only the second sleepover I've ever been to. The first time, I didn't know i would stay the night. One other time i was asked and made an excuse at the last minute because I felt really...bad inside. Now I know i have to go to this sleepover, but I feel really bad/nervous. Why is this?

Do you have a lot of experience sleeping away from home?
I work at a summer camp, and more and more kids and teens are coming who have never slept anywhere but at home or a granparent's. Sleeping somewhere different causes anxiety for lots of them at first.
Also, you may have images in your head from books, movies, or stories you've heard about bad things that have happened at sleepovers- pranks pulled on the first girl to fall asleep, girls being mean, "truth or dare" type games that you may not be comfortable with.
Any new social situation can be scary. I would reccommend talking to a parent or close friend about the way you feel and get their input or help. Also, if you don't know them already, try to get to know the parents and other girls who will be there a little bit. It'll help you feel more confident so you can relax and have a good time!

You are homesick.
It is in sleep that we are our most vulnerable. That and the sensation of waking up in a strange place is always jarring.
Sleepovers, staying at relatives, camping, going off to summer camp, going to college... all are our windows to independence by bits and pieces.
Start with a sleepover at your house. Then pick a perfect friend or place to sleepover at and promise yourself that you will stay and grow a little for it.
You will help the transition if you bring one thing from your bedroom that comforts you.

Well, sleepovers are supposed to be fun...but some people don't like them for a variety of reasons...
Don't want to be away from home.
Don't know everyone who will be there well.
Don't know parents of party giver.
Want to stay where you feel safe with Mom and Dad.
Don't know what you will be doing.
If you like the person having the sleepover , then try it. Talk to your folks and tell them about your worries.
Remember, your parents were once your age too....so they understand.

maybe it is just homesickness. talk to your parents before you go and tell them how you feel. work out some kind of a code or something. you could have your mom call you while you're there to check on you. everyone could just think she needed to tell you something. if you really want to go home you'd be able to tell her when she calls. im sure you could come up with something to tell your friends. but i bet once you get there and have fun, everything will be fine. and the next time you have to go to a sleepover, it will be a little easier.

homesickness is probably it.
it can be upsetting the first couple of times. i prefer to see it as an adventure that your going on with your friends or whoever your staying with.
don't worry - the homesickness will pass and remember that everyone at home is having a nice time too - your not just deserting them.
gd luck with the sleepovers

think about wat ur really afraid of, ur prolly just overreacting. I was nervous at my 1st sleepover 2, but in the end it was worth. Dont think about the bad things that could happen, think about how much fun u'll have.

maybe it is because that you r just trying to meet new friends that you have not meet yet and you r nevous because you don't think that they would maybe do things differently and might think the other people you meet might make you nervous.
