My cousin is expecting a bouncing baby boy. She and her husband want the baby to have his name. Not too long ago an uncle she was very close to passed away, and she wants to give the baby the uncle's first name as a middle name. If she does that, can the baby still be a Jr.?

The names have to be exactly the same. After the baby is born the father should always use the Sr. when signing anything for legal purposes. My dad was a Sr. and later in life there would have been a lot of confusion if he had not used the Sr. and my brother used the Jr. If your cousin names her baby with her late uncle's name as the middle name then he will be named after both his dad and his great uncle, but he will not be a Jr.

Most people will still call them a Jr. just for the first name being the same and it is okay to still put Jr. But in all actuality no it is not supposed to be a Jr. without the middle name.

But with common pratice if the first is the same it is a Jr.

No. The baby has to have the father's name from first to last in order to be a Jr. My son is a Jr. also and turned a month old TODAY. Congrats on the baby, they are a joy to have.

Yes, Folks rarely use their middle names. Also lots of folks change the middle name to reduce the confusion in the future.

My dad and my brothers records at the doctors office were all messed up and they both get each others mail, they have the exact same name accept for the Jr. it's been a pain in the AZZ for my dad but my brother love it - his credit is through the roof. LOL

No not technically, but you can still call him Junior or make it part of his name. Like myself.... my dad has always been known by his middle name. My first name IS his middle name... so people call us both by the same name. The only thing is that say our names were Steve. He is Big Steve, and I have always been Little Steve. So people automatically assume that I'm a junior, and he's a senior, and call me that. Well, I'm 27 now and people still call me junior when we are together, but everyone knows that I'm not technically a junior.

I think its fantastic cuz I'm always called Jr. Its very special for me to be called that even when people know I'm not. So yes, friends and family will end up calling the baby Little ------- and the dad will be Big --------.

No, the names need to be identical. My aunt wanted to name her son after her husband but he didn't want to due to a traditional avoidance of self-naming in our family. So as a compromise they gave my cousin a slightly different middle name - my uncle's middle name is Joseph and his son's is Jay.

NO, the only way it can be a Jr. if it has the exact same name as the daddy. (First, middle, last Jr.)
