My book is coming out at the end of next month and I am self published. I am really tight on money so I want to pick the places that would be the most productive for my book signing venues. Should I run a poll to see where the most people suggest I go or what? Any other ideas out there?

It really depends upon what your book is about. If it relates in any way to a special interest group, you could ask if they would like you to come along and talk about it and offer as an incentive a discount of 10% for that day only. Alternatively you could ask if your local library would be willing to host you as an up and coming local author in exchange for free copies for their shelves. Without knowing more about the subject matter of the book, it's hard to say.

That depends on what the book is about. In general, more people there are, more people you find in the book stores. So, I would suggest big cities with educated people (unless your book attracts different kind of people) like New York, Seattle, San Francisco, etc.

I used to write. There were a lot of good websites for writers and self-publishers that had chatrooms and message boards. I can't remember the name of them now; it's been a few years.
