Ok, I have been with my now ex-boyfriend for a long time.
Its been rocky. I try to make it work with him over and over, but it's just not working.

The last time we broke up, he wanted "space" , then later he wanted me back. Like a fool, I took him back. I forgave and forgave. I put more into the relationship than he did, it seems.
I had become emotionally and mentally drained, so I left him.

I finally opened my eyes to the situation.

I wanted to please him and I invested too much in this relationship.
I finally focused on myself as to what I want out of a relationship and out of life.

I believe that he loves me, but I am tired of the ups and downs. I want some one for a long term relationship, to be with me through thick and thin. I feel that it's only right to want this.

Anyway, he is messed up emotionally about the decision I made.

Why is it ok for a man to leave you but when you leave him, it's unacceptable?

It's totally acceptable.

If he is the one trying to convince you that it is unacceptable, it's probably because he is hurt and this is his way of letting some of the pain out. ...which is understandable, even if it makes little sense.

I think you made the right decision.

Because it's an insult. Some men believe that when they mess up & the women take him back, it will continue to be that way, him messing up but apologzing can get them back in. But when she takes a stand, it stuns them. You did a good thing and don't ever for a second doubt that. Do for you and find someone that not only makes you happy, but that you feel happy and comfortable with. Or if you choose to be by yourself for a while, do so. Single or coupled, find, love and respect you first and then "The Love of your Life" will fall into place.

Well this is just not fair to you. You need to take some time and move on. It is a waste of your time and when you get older you will be thankful that you didn't waste years of your life on someone who doesn't seem to be sure they want to be with you. Is he breaking up with you to go and do things with someone else so he doesn't feel guilty about cheating? Seems a little fishy to me but maybe he is just not secure with himself. Good luck but go on with your life.

It's an ego thing that's it . He wants to tell his friends that he broke up with you and not the other way around.
