You can fall out of love just as quick as you fall in love. It's just a fact of life. You're not going to stay with the first person you fall in love with, in fact, you'll fall in and out of love several times before you actually find the "one." Not everyone is compatible with one another. Relationships are trial and error, some work out great, others fall through the floor right away, some last a little while and are good in the beginning, but end up in the dumps for various reasons...

I have told a guy that I loved him and really wasn't "in love" with him. I don't know why I did it I think I just didn't want to hurt his feelings at the time. But that is exactly what I did and for that I was very sorry.

The fact that you were on and off for 3 yrs should have clued you into the fact that he doesn't have feelings for you. You were around to hang out with until the right one came along. Dont take it personal, just try to learn from it.

By telling you what he thought you wanted/needed to hear and saying it without thinking of your feelings. Also, by opening his mouth and saying something that he has no knowledge of.
He never loved you to begin with, (sorry to say). He just felt strongly for you... and that's probably giving him too much credit. I'm sorry he hurt you.
