Yes - one of those nightime news programs actully did a story on this a few years ago: they sent reumes with the same qualifications to companies but one with a name like Mary Smith & one with Danisha Jones & the 'white' sounding name got more responses.

It shouldn't, but but but it really depends on the person doing the hiring and if this is a small organization then i would say yes having a name like lakesha or marquis might become a problem. Really though don't concern yourself with it because no good will come of someone discriminating because of a name.

I think it is a stereotype too but it also depends on the employer and in some cases a name can either hurt or help....and its actually very sad because I have many friends with ethnic sounding names and they are not even close to the race that the names sound like.

I own a business, and I put some names in trash cans, for I've seen by sad experience that some people don't want to work, and they may not allow others to concentrate upon their work either. If the boss chastises them, they cry, "Discrimination!" Yes, I do discriminate against hateful people who cause too many problems and are worthless to me or anyone. If it goes too far, I'll move my business to China where I can find people who will work hard, rather than find silly excuses for doing nothing.

Any business enterprise it fairly is chanced directly to have used discriminatory hiring practices is responsible for tens of millions of dollars in fines to the federal government, besides as many greater tens of millions of dollars in damages to those they discriminated against. maximum companies with HR and criminal departments comprehend this, and are fairly careful to have hiring approaches that don't discriminate - they only care approximately in case you're able to do the activity. Such discrimination does occassionaly take place, notwithstanding it extremely is oftentimes not common in company u . s .. it is largely because of the widely generic actuality that many criminal companies acquire worker lists of significant companies, with a watch of launching a class action in superb condition, case in point, if it would not hire adequate african-american, hispanics, or in spite of racial class they are able to finding. in actuality, in company u . s . it extremely is greater possibly to have situations of opposite discrimination - that some human beings would be employed because of the fact there at the instant are not adequate participants of their race on the corporate e book to tutor the business enterprise's "dedication to variety". the place there are greater problems with discriomination is in small companies, a lot of that have not have been given any in dwelling house HR or criminal branch, and are not as excited approximately following the rule of thumb of regulation.
