A sales rep for a makeup company called Arbon (not sure on the spelling) told my mother that all other mascaras except theirs has bat feces in it. I don't know if I believe it but my mom does. Anyone know anything about this subject?

I found this: Mascara has long been rumored to contain bat feces, or guano, to thicken eyelashes and give them a darker appearance.

Fear not of bat excrement, though. According to the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, the rumor is false. Guano may well have been used to make the first forms of guanine, a key ingredient in many brands of mascara, but today's technology has advanced so far that instead of bat poop, cosmetic companies use fish scales.

"The color additive guanine is approved by the FDA and listed in the Code of Federal Regulations," wrote Irene Malbin, of the cosmetic association, in an e-mail. "By law, guanine must be derived from fish scales."

Guano was used years ago in mascara.

As an Arbonne rep, I know that Arbonne does not give this information. Your mother's Arbonne rep has rec'd bad from other reps and is using it to discredit other cosmetic companies. She should be telling you that the mascara is very gentle and you can even wash it off with soap and water. Arbonne does not use animal products or byproducts.

BUT did you know that many cosmetics and moistureizers have lanolin? Lanolin is derived from sheep. EWE!!!

And by the way, I do love Arbonne mascara. I changed from Estee Lauder and Maybelliene.

Where do all the makeup companies collect soo much bat feces from??? Its just a way to make sale of their product to condemn other companies with these kind of rumors.

Not all brands use it, but bat guano (bat feces) is used in a lot of products including mascara. A lot of lipstick contains fish scales, and a lot of cosmetics and food contain a dye called cochineal or carmine that comes from ground up insects called cochineals. It is kind of scary to find out what is really in your cosmetics...

If you look on the ingredients list of mascara, do you see 'bat feces'? no. This is just a stupid myth, and you shouldn't listen to the crazy sales lady. I didn't even know Arbon was a cosmetics company.... don't trust them. they probably put herpes virus in their mascara.

That is not true, I have heard things like they use fish scales in lipstick, and I do believe that. They wouldn't be able to use bat crap in mascara though, that would be like, against the law.

Well, I'm surprised by that if it is true as Bat Faeces are highly dangerous and contact can lead to blindness and even death due to bacteria it contains. Last time I wear mascara anyway.
