Is a 17" aftermarket replacement front wheel available for the KLR650? Is it possible to lace a 17" rim to the original hub? If so, how exactly is this done -- what rim and spokes would be used, and what is the procedure for lacing a rim? Is there a way to correct the speedometer/odometer for the smaller circumference?

The easiest/cheapest way to do it is use cast wheels from any GPZ, GSXR, Yamaha or similar. All you need to know axle diameter. You may have to have custom spacers made but they should be cheap as its not much more involved than drilling to size and facing to length
Respoking rims for supermotard styling is VERY expensive (friend paid around $900.00 US for front and rear)
You could try Buchannans Wheels. Rims will be around $150.00 and spokes about $90.00 exgtra. Building costs on top
The Armstrong used in Tomb Raider 2 had cast wheels.
One advantage is you still have stock wheels when yyou want to sell it

-Why would you want to do that? Moto-GP? Changing wheel sizes would considerably change the handling characteristics. You'd have to cut the steering neck and re-weld it.
-Is it possible to lace the original hub to a 17" rim? Sure.
-I've never heard of any kits.
-First you'd have to find a bike with a 17" rim, the same diameter hub as the KLR and the same width where the spokes attach.
-It would have to have the same number of spokes as the KLR.
-You would use the spokes from that wheel.
-Then find a 17" rim with the same amount of spoke holes as the KLR.
-The only way to correct the speedo would be to find a Kawi with a 17" wheel and use that speedo.
-Lacing and truing wheels is best left to someone that knows
what they're doing (like me). I tried to explain lacing a wheel to someone in an e-mail. He couldn't quite grasp it.

buy a kawasaki Ninja 500R used front wheel and a Ninja 250R Rotor, yes you speedo will be screw up...haven't figure if the ninja 500r wheel speed sensor will fix this because it would probally fit. or get a gps and clock it and live with it.

plus now you can go tubless
