No real offense, but if everyone didn't do something they wanted out of fear of not being able, Columbus would have likely stayed in Spain. Neil Young, likely would have never climbed into a Rocket. Etc. Etc. Etc.
The greater the fear of being unsuccessful or being rejected, the greater the need to make the effort.
I'll offer an analogy.
You can't possibly win a Lottery, if you don't buy a ticket.
The person who actually makes the choice,,,and might NOT pick you, isn't personally attacking you,,, they are choosing,, through knowledge and experience,,,hopefully,,, the on e they think will be best suited.
We often have to settle for less in our evolution. Audition for multiple parts, or the next production,,,, Persistence can pay off too.

If you want to be an actor, one of the realities you must learn to deal with is the fact that you aren't going to get every part you audition for. However, you will learn and gain experience from every audition, whether you get the part or not. So, being intimidated, or afraid of losing a part, will only hold you back in the long run. Get out there and try. It will make you a better actor regardless of the outcome. Besides, you never know what will happen. I've been cast in parts that I thought I had no chance at whatsoever. You never know what the director will be looking for in the role. What you think makes this other person good for the part might not be what the director is looking for.

For a school play, my teacher had everyone audition from the same script and she would assign the roles. We were asked beforehand to write down our first choices...It was for Romeo and Juliet, and I had the same situation, so rather than Juliet I asked for the role of the nurse. After the audition the teacher took me aside for a moment and asked if I really wanted to be the nurse. Assuming the worst, I said I'd do much much better in the actual play, ooh, please give me a chance.
She said, "Well, it was just because I was thinking of putting you in as Juliet, but..." I was soon reciting nonsense about roses.
What's the worst that can happen? Go, you fool, go!

Go to the auditions and try. You may not get the part you had in mind (or you might!). One thing is for sure- if you don't go, you won't be in the play, and could miss out on a memorable school experience. Every actor has fear, but you simply move past it.

With that attitude - I am tempted to say no....you'll just defeat yourself before you even try...
But YES. You absolutely should. You will never get anywhere by not trying. If you get the part - great. If not, hopefully they will offer you something. If you are addicted to stage, like myself, even being a spearholder (opera term for an "extra" in the background) is an honor. Plus it is a change to learn, to experience the stage, and to get yourself known by the producers, directors, and others, increasing your chance for the next play.
So go there - be confident - given them everything you have - and most of all enjoy yourself. That's the only way I know to get a great part.

You should definitely go for it. You never know what is going to happen. She could really screw up during the audition, or just not turn out to be nearly as good as you thought she was. You are probably just psyching yourself out of the part by telling yourself that she is better, when in fact it may not be the truth. Every actor has a different style to their approach, and yours might just be what they are looking for! Go for it, and don't regret not trying later! Good luck, and break a leg!

Go for it!!! No one can bring to the table what you can and that girl proably envies you for something that you got. Keep me posted and good luck. I'm sure you'll be great if you try out for the part. If you don't make it, there's always next time and think of all the famous people that were rejected a lot before they got really really famous.

Only the casting director can determine who is better suited for the role. You never know exactly what they are looking for. Good luck.

Definitely...Don't be scared of going for any part...I mean...at least try....You can't just assume someone will make it...
For example, this girl...I thought she was gonna make the play that I tried for yesterday...and she actually didn't....But I did. xP---Wasn't the part I wanted, but okay. ^_^
