There are many agencies and non profit organizations that will help you to complete and file emancipation paperwork.

You may want to call a local Legal Aid society or something that has the phrase "Children's Rights" in their name (for example, in Los Angeles, we have "Alliance for Children's Rights"). Tell them that you are interested in emancipation.

Since you are a minor, it is likely that Legal Aid would help you. You could also call your local court house and ask them about the paper work or what you need to do to start emancipation proceedings. Often times, court houses have "Clinics", where you can go in and meet with a paralegal.

Here's a link to a .pdf document called "So You Want To Be Emancipated". It is California law, but it's very helpful and is published by Public Counsel, a legal aid organization in LA that has a children's rights project. It will tell you what rights you have to emancipate, what rights you will lose if you emancipate and so forth. It will answer all your questions, I bet!!

It depends on where you live. If you live in India then your emancipated all ready in Texas you are considered an adult at 17 and are subject to adult prosecution. You still can't vote or buy alcohol but you go to the adult jail if you commit a crime.

Try not to grow up too quick. Your only young once. if your parents don't want you then there must be a whole hell of a lot of other things going on that you are not mentioning. Throwing a kid away at 17 means they must be doing some very bad things and the parents either don't want or can't afford to put up with anymore.

Being emancipated does not make you an adult. It simply means you are considered legally responsible for yourself if your not mental and then the state takes over.

Try checking the link below, as this may vary by State. The link gives the Title & Chapter on Emancipation Law for various states, and you can then click the state's link to get to their Law Codes, where you can pick the right Title & Chapter to see what it says for your state.

Sorry that this is a problem you need to deal with. Hope it all works out for you!

I'm no lawyer, but I think before the age of 18, to be emancipated you need to be declared such by a judge. Until then, you're an official minor.

With your situation, I don't think it would be a problem to get the declaration, but I don't think its automatic. If I were you I'd call your local courthouse to find out if its important to you.

You need to review the State you live in Revised Statutes. It would let you know the age of majority and how and if you could file for emancipation.

Those are probably questions that you should ask a lawyer. Though, with the time that all of the legal proceedings take, you'll probably be 18 and independent by then, anyway.
