You'll probably have to wait a full calendar month before you can legally complain. But if I were you, I'd be on the phone every day. I'd even go in to the office and sit on the guys desk until he got so annoyed with me that he'd sign the cheque there and then.
In a nutshell...if you want your money without it going through court, get off your backside and get down to your old workplace and start hassling them! If you don't, you'll only have yourself to blame if it goes wrong...

Take the situation up with the employment tribunal, you can get information online and file the forms online. I did this for my husband and he got his wages eventually before it went to court. You are entitled to wages earned so act quickly as there is a time clause of 3 months I think it is.

You probably won't be paid til the end of the month, and sometimes it takes even longer than that if it's a "closing" salary. You should call you ex-employer and ask him. He must give you an answer, and whatever date he gives you, if he goes beyond that date, then phone him every day til he pays you. And if after about 10 days if that still doesn't work, talk to your citizen's advice bureau about what you can do about it.

Make copies of your timecards and work schedules. Talk to your foreman, and then your company accountant. As someone mentioned above, it may be a timing issue with the accounting firm who handles the payroll (especially if you started the job in the middle of a pay period). Don't get excited just yet. Get your documentation together and let them know (politely) that you need your paycheck or you'll be contacting the company owner, the payroll company, and the State Labor Board.

You need to go down there and demand the money, but reasonably politely. If they don't listen warn them you are going to seek legal advice, if that still don't work seek legal advice.
The solicitor will write a letter to your previous employers demanding payment that will definitely work.

Your best bet would be to ask citizens advise and they will tell you your best course of action. you can also ring up your previous employer to find out why they are withholding payment, as it might be that you haven't handed back all company property (IE - id badge, uniform)

What does your employer say about that?
Sounds like you will have to file a lawsuit.
