Actually at most 4 year universities they are NOT accepted unless you have completed at least a year of community college work.

Most universities in the U.S. will accept a GED, but you're at a great disadvantage to someone who has earned a high school diploma when applying (got that directly from my friend's father who is on the admissions board at Eastern Michigan University). A lot of folks who get their GED and want to go to college start off by attending community college and then transferring to a major university -- great way to save money too.
