No, it is not mandatory where I live. However, it is in the better interests of the day care provider to get licensed. S/he can get insurance for the day care; they can be listed in government pubs of licensed day care providers; poor parents can get chits to pay for day care, but only at licensed providers.

yes it is manditory to be licensed otherwise anyone could open up a childcare ....these are just extra precautions that the state takes to make sure that the kids go to a safe yet licensed place.

YES!! Any establishment that takes care of children must be a licensed childcare center. They are required to take special courses in education and CPR. Becides you really have to stop and think, do you really want your child staying some place that has no training or hasn't been licensed? I wouldn't.
