Years ago no one had "benefits" to get people to give money and gifts . People paid their own way to relieve bills. It looks like "benefits" are a cry tactic or a give me tactic.

"Benefits" as I mentioned is a kind of gathering of family and friends in a party form to raise money or gifts to help with a person or people having a medical problem or deceased.

(Example) 30 years ago my child had come down with Spinal Meningitis but we never had nor would we have the nerve to ask people for money to cover our bills.

I think their great for the ones that are genuine. People should help one another, that is what makes the world go around. If you do not want to attend, don't. Be careful about passing judgment...there may come a day that you need help from others. We must give to receive. If we are in a position to help others, we should. If we need help, others will help us. Times have changes. The goal of each generation is to get better and better. There were many things different years ago. We look to the past to learn, we live today and we plan for a better world for tomorrow. Our duty is to leave the world a better place because we were here. We leave the world for the next generations. Our ancestors worked to make the world better so we can have the things we all have today. In the future, the next generations will thank us for what we have done to make life better for them too! I am thankful for those who gave their lives to make life as good as we have it today. I only hope that I can give as much to the good of the world as they have done!

Your question is confusing, but I will try to address it.

"Years ago" humans were helping one another in ways that were relevant to their times. For example, orphanages have been around for centuries, people have given money to their churches, synagogues, mosques to help others, loose change has been given to beggars to help those who are less fortunate.

Charity has always been around in some form or other and as one poster already mentioned, tragedies can happen to anyone. So if your point is that people are less resourceful and lazier now than they used to be, I would have to disagree.

Besides, helping others is a selfish act because it is beneficial not just to the receiver, but it also gives good feelings to those who reach out to others. Always give back to your society in any way possible and I guarantee, you will live a happier life.

For some it's just a hand out that, for some reason, they think they deserve. For others, they fall on hard times and need help. I used to not believe in getting help from the government, I always felt that everybody should pay their own way. But when the place where my husband worked for 10 years burned down & he had to get another job & we had no insurance & I got pg after 15yrs of marriage thinking it would never happen you better believe I sought help! I did NOT want to, but I had to have prenatal care! And besides, I was seeing so many other people getting so much who do not need help.
Like the people in line at the grocery store paying with food stamps & wearing designer clothes putting their groceries into $35,000 cars while I'm struggling to buy formula for my baby driving a run down 15yo car.

Don't worry, eventually the world will change and you won't even beable to have benefits either. So No Jobs, No Benefits.

Now What?

You sound jealous because you are lacking a tactic. If one was offered to you would you push away the benefits?
