Wouldn't that be a kick in the teeth?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060928/sc_nm/china_fusion_dc_1

I say, good luck to them. If they can shuck off their oil dependency it can only do us good as well. But how would that feel....China selling fusion technology to the US and Europe...?! Would that be the tipping point where we realise that they have overtaken us?

(Side note: I am well aware that in the field of human rights they still have a long way to go....)

Well not many people will admit it but the US can't be the world power forever.

Good for them, they have come a long way.

As long as we're off oil, I wouldn't mind.

This report was very vague on the true significance of this Chinese work. I suspect that in any event that this type of technology would be hard to protect. However if they do get it I would say good luck to them too. (Interestingly I see that this report mentions the production of a small amount of radio active waste, the first time I have seen this, although I have always thought that this might be the case. Clearly this is not the completely clean technology some have claimed.)

It maybe that the real problem is China producing all the high-tec components that goes into the equipment to keep western economies going. Imagine the consequences if the Chinese government said, we are not going to supply you with computer components anymore until you show us a little more respect.

It's not their fusion power I worry about, it's their stinky old coal, which they will be using in increasing quantities.
