Some people think the Internet is a bad thing. Your identity stolen and your savings can be robbed without setting foot in your home. A place for mankind to exercise it's darkest desires. An open market when you can purchase anything you like. A world where everything is watched and monitored?
Some people think the Internet is a good thing, the most powerful educational tool ever. Preserving our history. When disaster struct Asia the amount of money donated over the Internet outweighed their own govenments. The only place where freedom of speech is applicable.

Anyway, in my opinion its a good thing. The internet is the best thing to have happened to man since the birth of the electrical age. Increased communication, freedom of speech, massive amounts of information just a click away...our eyes are finally open to what is going on in the world. The internet has the potential to bring us all together as one enormous community.
Policing abuse is an *entirely* different question though...

As you say - 'Big Brother is watching'. However, if it was not the Internet, it would be by some other means - like the millions of staff members of the K.G.B. There will have to be some kind of overlord with international law having the right to pursue and prosecute people who think they are safe in far away places. The curse of identity theft is another matter which people will have to be educated about to prevent them from divulging very sensitive matters. Pornography is another matter with Child Porn being the curse of our time. Although it has always been there, the Internet makes it available to Tom, Dick and Harry. It is something that is being tackled in UK but it must become a trans-world issue with the purveyors being prosecuted to the limits of the laws...................

First of all its not a thing..well it depends.Even though sometimes i think its very time consuming and wasteful but then in times of trouble and boredom it really does help.It just depends on the mode of ones usage.If you use it appropriately it would yearn you knowledge and a great time pass and sometimes money too.But if you use it the other way (pornography, hacking, illegal activities) then ofcourse it results into waste of a productive resources.

Depends on individual's ATTITUDE.

i still think internet is good. i learn so much just by browsing and there are so many people who are willing to help you with everything. just be aware i guess, don't believe everything.
