As a few others have mentioned you should check the cause of spotting with your doctor.
Costs aside, if you plan on getting pregant. I would stop using the pill and give your body a break. It's best for you and your baby if you wait 6 months or longer before conceiving. It may take that long before your body equilibrates back to normal hormonal levels.
As you suggested use a condomn instead, you or your husband may not prefer it. But consider it a small sacrifice for a healthy child in the future. You many even consider a 3 month detox session for the both of you. Especially if either of you smoke or ever smoked before. Or had terrible diets. Remember to eat healthy and exercise now! Create good habits that you both will keep while you are pregnant and can translate to your child in the future.
Don't forget your folic acid and your husband should take plenty of zinc and vitamin E for healthy sperm.
BEST OF LUCK and GOD BLESS!

I think you already made up your mind. You know your body better than anyone else!!! If you have been taking the pill for 5 years and this is new, it is not the right pill for you. It was also recommended, going back 20 years, that before you become pregnant, you need to get off the pill if you had been on them for some time. This will get your body cleansed from the pill before conceiving. They best of luck to you and hubby and the future family.

Yes I do think you should stop taking your birth control pills especially if they are making you spot. Since you are planning to conceive in a few months, just use condoms until then. Your body needs time to release all of those fake hormones in your body. Five years is a long time to be on birth control. I have also been on birth control for five years and I am considering getting off as well. I am on Yasmin and they make me crabby. I am not planning on conceiving any time soon but condoms are easier. Good luck!

just because you have some bleeding does not mean you can't get pregnant. FIrst of all. But I would stop taking the pill and just use condoms EVERYTIME until you want to conceive. This will also help get all of the pills efectiveness out of your system so that you will be able to cocieve when you want. Good luck

I say throw them out too.. I mean who knows.. it could take you 3 months to conceive. The worse that could happen is you could conceive 3 months or less earlier than planned & with protected sex-though it's not 100% - your chances are slim. Just be sure to use protection.. I've seen alot of women skip their pills & conceive just that quick!

If you are planning on trying to get pregnant in 3 mos, then go ahead. Just be careful and you still have to use protection, because I got pregnant when I missed one pill because I forgot to bring them when I went on vacation. But there are some women that it takes up to a year to get pregnant after they get off the pill. So I would say yes, just be careful, every woman is different.

Well if you want to conceive in three months stop taking them. You might not conceive right away anyway. Most importantly, you should go see your doctor. He/she will give you the guidance you need regarding this matter. After all you need to be sure that you are mentally and physically o.k before you try to conceive. Best of luck to you!

YES, throw them out!
It took my wife 6 months to conceive after 4 years on orthotricylen and then she miscarried. (not that there is a direct correlation) we went almost another year before we conceived our son. so give your body time, and if something happens early, well, that should be OK:) Good Luck

Throw them out now, so your body can get the pills out of your sysem before you start trying. Cause the Dr will even tell you to quit your pills 2-3 mos before trying. Good luck

If you are planning to conceive in January its good to stop now anyway. They usually say it takes 3 months to get it out of your system. So throw them out and have fun!
