Nope it does not have anything to do with supply and demand, well election are coming in 2 months and we are still consuming as much oil, then why is the sudden drop of the gas prices. We still have plenty of oil for many years to come. This is just an excuse to keep the prices high because it helps the republicans get richer, that is where most of their stocks are. Just before election we will keep hearing that their is plenty of oil, then after the elections there will be another issue with supply and demand stating that they have to raise the prices, because we use too much oil.

Yes, it is "Supply and Demand". The summer traveling season is over and demand is down, causing prices to go down. The winter heating season is coming up in a couple months, and demand will go up. This will cause the price to go up. And now there is a new report out that OPEC has informally agreed to cut production to bring oil prices up. This will be drop in supply, and you can bet this will cause the price to go up. It has nothing to do with the U.S. politicians. Please explain to us how the U.S. elections control the global price of oil?
High profits? When did "profit" become a 4-letter word? Look at the profit margins. If the oil companies were artificially inflating the price of oil, their profit margins would be way up. As it turns out, while their profits have gone up, their profit margins have remained the same. To anyone with half a brain, this will tell you that their expenses have gone way up too. Name me one company that will want to keep the profits the same while spending more money? If they spend more to run the company, they want a return on the investment. Nothing wrong with that.
And to say the Republican Party controls the price is bull. In MN, the Democrats passed a law in 2001 that says a gas station cannot sell gas BELOW a certain price, which is set daily by the state's commerce department. They say it is to protect the small independent companies from the "big box" companies, but then turn around and fine the small independents when they lower their price to bring in more business. Can you explain that? Sounds to me that the Democrats are the ones that are really controlling the price.

Get a grip on reality, dumby. The high oil prices are not new, no matter what the Liberals would like you to believe, and the Bushes have nothing to do with them. When oil first began to be a major economic factor, the first corporations formed what was called the Seven Sisters, and set up an unofficial and highly discreet policy of price-setting, which is still going on today. It is these corporations who are responsible for the high oil prices, and they don't give a damn about national welfare or the working guy's pocketbook, except how far into it they can safely dig.
Also, as a rule, if you had bothered to watch, prices usually go up during the summer, which is a peak travel period in this country, and down in the winter when people are less inclined to hop in the car for frivolous reasons--supply and demand. Consider, too, that in buying that hogwash about GW, you are not only falling into the mind-trap the Democrats created for political gain, you are also failing to place the blame where it rightly belongs, and thus losing any chance of making a change in the stranglehold these oil companies have on the American purse. Which suits them just fine, I'm sure.
Instead of just swallowing the Democrats crappola, why don't you think for yourself? You'll find it very freeing, and frustrating at the same time, given the number of your fellow citizens who are too busy letting the Dems and the media make up their minds for them to see the forest at all. Never mind the trees.
But, believe me who has seen through it, if you let the politicians make up your mind for you, you'll never be anything but confused, bewildered and lead astray.

When economists say it's supply and demand which control prices, and Democrats say it's the Republicans, I'm going to go with the non-political version. Isn't it indeed strange that a majority of the 'oil conspiracy' believers are Democrats? I suggest doing research on oil company profits, maybe you will learn something. But do you want the truth? By the way, you're not going to change anyone's political affiliation.

You know... How come gas prices were up when Bush ran for president in the last election? Seems to me if he could have controlled prices during the run against Kerry that would have been the ideal time.
I think you need to do a little more research on the subject. Sure big gas companies want conservatives in office, why wouldn't they? Republicans are generally pro gas because they are pro-business.
The liberal conspiracy continues to be based on ignorance, incorrect or skewed information formulated into the perfect lie. All we need is a little more education and respect on both sides.

Of course not!!! It is the Oil companies lining their pockets. Please don't be so naive to think the Iraq war drove it up. Hey we have Iraq and their OIL for pete sake.
If anything the price should go down. Plus the U.S. has a 15 year oil reserve. (some say 10 years and others say 5) The point is we have oil coming out of our ying-yang and people are believing the cock and bull stories of the Oil companies and the government. I say the entire country should participate in a one day strike.
If we could get everybody in the country to stop using ALL oil for just one day. In other words DON'T use your car buses trains Airplanes. Everyone stay home for one day and not go to work. Don't use any oil products for one day. The oil companies would hurt and you would see how fast the prices would come down. Unfortunately that would be impossible to do.

Yep.. That is exactly what is going on. You know all those jobs being sent over seas. Well.. a whole bunch of 'em (like most of 'em) have gone to China. Take a population like China's who use to walk and peddle bikes all over the place.. Now put them behind the wheel of an auto. Ya got one heck of a demand for gas. China's economy is doing very well these days, and they are 1/3 of the worlds population.
