I've received some great hand-me-down clothes lately, but the smell of laundry detergent is overwhelming. I have a front-loading european washer and use very little, and unscented, detergent. Any ideas? thanks in advance....

Wash them again in your washer, w/ unscented detergent. A bit of vinegar in the water may help, too.

Rewash your clothes with the unscented detergent which should take care of it or hang them outside to air out.
