Ewww, I wouldn't.
OTOH... are you sure it's an asbestos roof and not an ASPHALT roof? Asphalt should be no problem.

What Trevor is trying to ask is that he collects rain water which is caught on an asbestos roof which then drains into a water butt. He then uses this water from the butt to water his vegetables in the garden.
What he wants to know is basically, Is there any danger in doing this?
I would say that there maybe a small danger as asbestos particles may be found in the water. If that is watered over his vegetables it will probably mean that a percentage of asbestos dust may remain on the vegetable after the water has dispursed. Asbestos is normally dangerous in breathing in the dust over a reasonable period but it is a different thing when it is ingested. The linings of our intestines/stomach is very strong so I would be surprised if a health problem occured over this as the particals that might be eaten would be very small.
Quite probably, I would think you washed your vegetables too before eating so I wouldn't lose any sleep over this. Asbestos is at it's most dangerous when it is cracked. The only cases I have ever known of asbestosis is where someone has been in close contact with it for a number of years, especially those working with it without protective breathing apperatus.
The Nanny state we live in though has deemed this substance highly dangerous and many people have been so scared by Nanny that some think just touching the stuff could kill you. It is highly unlikely you will suffer any problems with what you are doing so carry on....... . Much more danger involved in eating a Mars Bar.. ;o)

YES it is OK to eat veg. Asbestos is inert, not soluble in any known liquid, very stable. Infinite life expectency. All this hype about asbestos being "BAD" is exaggerated. It is VERY dangerous when ground to a fine state and inhaled. THATS IT (INHALED)
In a garden shed with an asbestos roof, the water coming off will contain minute traces of the fibers of asbestos, you water your plants with this water, the plant is incapable of drawing asbestos into its structure.

Depending on the type of asbestos roof will make a big difference, if its the type where its encased in concrete then you should have no problem, if it's the un-encased kind you'd still probably be fine as the issue is not the surface - remember the heat proof mats we used in school they pretty much the same. Its only when you break them apart that they become harmful.
As i said it should be ok but if you have reservations don't eat it

Asbestosis is a lung disease, so eating things probably wont hurt. Anyway this asbestos thing is very new, we all had flaky asbestos iron stands on our ironing boards and we stood things on asbestos and Islington Council made everyone cover their doors in asbestos in the 1970's against fire. The stuff was everywhere and my sister, who was a ward sister specialising in lung diseases said she never saw a single case relating to asbestos. It's a devastating disease, but I don't think it's easy to get. A friend of mine told me the kids in South Africa used to play with the spoil heaps, but the only person she knew who got it was her dad and he was an engineer where there was asbestos lagging on pipes everywhere.

No, I would say that that would be bad. Ingesting or inhaling asbestos is extremely dangerous. If you have asbestos that you know of you should contact your local government and ask about asbestos clean up...

Well, since I am an amphibious animal as well as a doctor (of sorts), I thought I would offer my invaluable contribution for you. After eating, as one other astute answerer noted, you must take them out of their shells and allow them to frolic in the toilet bowl. You can also give them a bath there with the addition of some dish washing soap, then gently rinse them by flushing said toilet. Care should be taken to insure the turtles do not go done the drain. Hope I helped

Rain ran off our asbestos pig-sty roofs (upon which we also used to play!) when we were kids, never seemed to do any harm. All our livestock sheltered in those buildings too, plus we kept all our outdoor stuff there. None of us has had any harm from it yet!

Not clear that ingesting asbestos is harmful, but I wouldn't recommend it. Only breathing asbestos is known to be harmful.

I wouldn't think you would want to eat anything that has been anywhere close to asbestos.
