LAPTOP- anything with AMD 64 X2.. or Intel DUO core processors.. they are the newest technology.. laptops have wireless capability.. and provide you with mobility and less size.. you don't need a huge computer desk to have one.. and can put it in a bag and take it anywhere with you.. also laptops are just as fast as computers these days.. they simply cost a bit more because the mobility.. and convenience...
Make sure you get a duel core processor... if you don't want to pay for it now.. WAIT... it will definitely be worth it

What's the difference between a laptop and a notebook? Nothing. Use the two terms interchangeably.

Depends on what you term the best. I prefer Dells for all around Laptop goodness - hardware is usually more dependable than others in my opinion. However a laptop company called Voodoo specializes in best of the best hardware but is very expensive. Alienware laptops are very good as well and offer all of the different chipsets (intel, amd duo configs ect). If I were to get one now I'd go Alienware.

There is no physical difference.
Make is down to a couple of things, cost, size and what do you want to do with it.
My pref is Sony Vaio.
