According to my very knowledgable Reggae fan-friend:
Marley and the Wailers were mostly singles artists during the '60s, and there were a couple albums that collected some of their biggest songs. The first collection of songs that could be called a proper album was probably African Herbsman, which the Wailers did with Lee 'Scratch' Perry. But the album widely recognized as the first official official Bob Marley & the Wailers album--the first album released internationally and the first of the albums on Island--was Catch A Fire.
