Yes, they should. Even though I wouldn't get the money since my family did not migrate to the states til recently.
There isn't a person here who works for free and to be beaten on top of it and then have to fight for rights for freedom that were declared in the constitution. That is outrageous. All the people who say no one is a slave so they shouldn't get any money now is forgettting that they are taking in the fruits of free labour. The fact that we are on top of this unipolar system b/c people were forced to work. If there were no slaves, the United States could never have been so successful. It would be Russia at the top. The same goes with native americans and their land. When someone wrongs another it is never forgotten, The fact that no one served any punishment for the evils commited makes it the number one reason why it won't be forgot.

Where would it stop? What about the Native Americans? They have no voice and were darn near wiped out as a race. Its always Black people and slavery we hear about as if they were the only ones who suffered shame and misery.
Lessons should be learned from history and all this slaves reparations thing is doing is keeping racism alive and thriving. Money does not fix wrongs.., and no one alive today had one thing to do with Slavery. If there are, someone please point them out.
I did not own any slaves, nor my dad, nor my granddad or his dad before him. Should I pay? I don't think so, and I will not.
There are no Black Slaves alive today. If there were, THEY and ONLY they should be compensated. I could see some form or memorials made in their memory - but paying black people who never really knew what slavery was? I don't think so!
That is no different than my claiming injury because of what the white man did to my Native American great great Grandparents and their parents. It is pure insanity that endeavors to keep hate alive all the while acting like we battle against hatred. Like hitting a brick wall with a bare fist - how bloody and painful does it have to get before one learns to stop it.

how about three complications?
1) There are a huge number of whites who never owned slaves, and/or who immigrated here after slavery ended. Likewise, there are some blacks who immigrated here after the era of slavery; would someone who was 1/8 a decendent of slaves and 7/8 of, say, Jamaicans, be entitled to anything? 1/8th?
2) There are blacks today who are descendants of blacks and whites. Do they pay themselves?
3) The unprecedented move would likely see calls for reparations from natives, from descendants of indentured servants, from descendants of penal colony immigrants (how Georgia started), descendants of Revolutionary War soldiers that the government skipped out on paying, and a whole slew of others.

Top 10 Reasons to pay black people for slavery:
10. It will clear white people's conscience.
9. A few bucks for years of oppression? Well, allright!!!
8. It's a lot cheaper than educating them properly.
7. After the payment, back to the status quo!
6. It's the very least we could do LOL.
5. Every family of four in the ghetto could use twenty five bucks.
4. Might give the Republicans a couple more black votes.
3. Might shut them up.
2. One of them could buy your house, in this market thats not all bad!
...and the number one reason to pay blacks for slavery is:
1. It makes white people cool again!

hehe, homework help, isn't it?
But anyhow:
Pros:
1. African American votes for whatever politician decides to instill the practise.
2. Swift political influence and trust.
3. Scientific evidence of the results of the event. (For now we can only speculate. Real pros and cons haven't really been verified)
Cons:
1. National upset for nearly everyone else in the country.
2. Financial burden on society.
3. Financial misuse. Some African Americans may just waste it in stupid stuff and therefore the money would be a waste.

That was too long ago. Now, America is filled with people that had nothing to do with slavery... for example, recent immigrants. Making them pay for abuses that they did not inflict would not make any sense.

there are no living slaves today.
there are no white people that owned slaves living today.
so why would the government pay the blacks more money to do nothing when their ancestors were the slaves?
