I want to buy an external hard drive for my Mac G5. What is the best brand? LaCie, Maxtor, Seagate?

They should all be decent drives with high mean time between failure (MTBF) rates. I'd spend some time looking at the specs and costs to decide which specific drive I wanted. There's rotational speed (5400 rpm, 7200 rpm, etc.) but also seek time and transfer throughput. Don't get a USB 2.0 drive unless it also has Firewire, because Firewire is noticeably faster and you'll want to use that.

Go to the Apple Store online and read the customer reviews on the different external drives. You'll probably get a really good idea there.
