UK Prime Minister Tony Blair - the man who dragged the country kicking and screaming into the War on Terror, is looking at his last year in government. It's major news here in the UK, but I wondered if anyone outside the country could actually be bothered to give a rat's? Fellow Brits, feel free to answer too!

For all of his faults Tony Blair is a remarkably adept public speaker. He skips around difficult issues like they were dayglo landmines and has bags of charm at his disposal. More at least than the man who manages to be both charmless slug AND wet lettue Cameron (this metaphor implies that he may one day eat himself, fingers crossed, eh?)
I think the Labour majority will suffer from Blairs departure, particularly as it seems likely (although surprisingly not a shoe in)that Brown will succeed him; he is not a statesman nor a charmer. Dour beancounters may help the economy but they do not charm the voters in the political modern day circus .
That being the case, it is time for the Lib Dems to get hold of a few key issues and not be afraid to radicalise them a little; this is in preparation for the next election quite possibly delivering a hung parliment and affording them huge political influence.
If that was to be the outcomeof Blair's swansong speech then perhaps there is a little hope yet for the quagmire of English politics

I have always like Mr. Blair. He seems to be a strong willed man and even though I am not British, I felt he represented England far more than the royal family. Stiff upper lip and all that. We have to deal with John Wayne Bush over here. Takin on the terrorists with guns blazing.

I havent lived in the UK now for 10 years, and beleive me, us expats dont give a rats, we all left for a good reason, in most cases the fact that the country was going to the dogs. Very few of us care that have been out of the country for any length of time, most of us live in far better climates, and pay far less tax, get out while you can, the end is nigh!

I admire Tony Blair. He realizes along with Our President, George Bush, that terrorists must know and understand that America and the UK will not stand for their bullying.

Well i'm an american and I guess I should be thankful that Blair was with us in the war. However I don't support the war. Most of the british obviously didn't like him, and they know him best. Hopefully your next PM will be better, and hopefully out next president(two more years) will be better too.

I think that is a bad idea when a politian decides to leave after getting involved in a political war. I think the people of the UK should ban together and make it so he cannot leave until this stupid war is over!!!

As an American I wish him the best. He was a reliable partner and willing to stand with America when it really mattered

My guess is the Special Relationship will continue more or less unchanged
