It IS a conspiracy. I took a tour of a TV station when I was a teenager. Somebody asked them why the channels all seem to have commercials at the same time. They said that when advertisers buy the commercial slots, they try to get them at the same time that there are commercials on other channels. That way we have to watch the commercials. Sometimes when they can swing it, they try to get their ads on several stations at the same time. or during the same break, so that you can't avoid seeing it.

I'm beginning to think it's a conspiracy. Networks have probably gotten together to fix advertising rates. Advertisers have agreed to pay as long as commercial breaks are timed at the same time on all networks.
That way they are guaranteed to be seen, and the surfers are sunk.
