ride it.... look at the bearings and frame for any cracks, and see how old it is. Really it shouldn't be that hard to figure. If you're still worried, you can take the model and make and call a bikestore and see if they still make parts for it. But really if a bike looks like it's good. it likely is because they're not that complex.
