Nothing is free. You have not won a lottery. You have not been selected to represent a company in the US. Someone is Nigeria does not have any money for you.

Generally if someone offers you a great deal, but requires you to send money first, and it's impossible for you to verify what they are offereing, then it's a scam. Often times they have unusualy names and live in other countries, or have bad grammar. A sure way to see is mention that you have a friend living in their country that works for interpol. Mention that you would like to introduce them to your friend to facilitate the exchange. If you never hear from them again, you'll know you did well.

Generally, no one will ever approach you to give you something you didn't work for or inherit from a family member unless they are scamming you.

If it sounds too good to be true, it's a scam.

If they want you to give out personal information, it's a scam.

If they don't belong to an easily identifiable company that you can contact on your own, it's a scam.

Please note, lack of these doesn't mean it isn't a scam, but these are definitely signs to stay away.

Also, don't reply to any of these, even just asking for more information. They might not even know if your email address is an active one, until you reply.

Scammers generally use very poor english and grammar but pose as english speaking americans or britains. They also tend to rush into wanting your personal information.
