i talk really soft unless i am mad. I really have trouble orderign at restaurants. I am not sure why people can't hear me. But i think we are thought of as shy because we don't yell out things. However when someone wants to know something who do you think they will come to ask??? not the loud mouth know it all. Being quiet is actually smart. You can learn more by listening with your ears open than talking with your mouth open!

I've experienced the same thing. Sometime I say things and it's like no one hears it. I just shut up. But I found that I was speaking in a low register of sound. If I raise my register (not loudness, I'm talking about pitch), others can hear me better and they listen.
