I have an oppurtunity to make a lot of cash if I study hard for a year or two and enter my brothers business. With the benefit of his client base, I could make a lot of money after 5 years time. I haven't jumped at the oppurtunity after a month or two and my disinterest is bothering me. I tend to think small as in I'm not money-hungry and I haven't set many goals for myself. Has this conditioned me to not jump at this oppurtunity or should I just look for another route, until I find something I will jump at?

'Job' could be substituted with 'college education' and I'm sure a few other areas of my life.

I'm not sure who to repsond to, just about all the answers have been good.

Glad some people feel the same or have felt the same. I'm with you though, if money was made based on ones knowledge of the humanities, I'd be rolling in the dough. My passions are such because they involve my own will power, not because they are things I have to do. They pretty much encompass anything to do with self expression, such as art, literature, music, language, etc. I love studying those things and I'd be content in only studying those things, but as we all know, thats not possible. There's rent to be paid, and a good job to be had, and blah blah blah

I don't know, man. It sounds familliar though. And setting a goal 7 years down the road is just incredibe if you can't see yourself having a good time along the way.
So learn from my mistakes! I'm 36 years old and still goofing around. In fact, I goofing around right now, waiting for my pizza to arrive. Money and a good career never motivated me much, and I sought my pleasures in other things... like rock climbing... reading a good book now and then... photography... travelling. And although I make a decent living now at a boring job, and I'm pretty happy with my life in general, I could have made my fortunes already - had I just applied myself to something.
So get off your *** and get to it. Unless you've got something better to do.

I'm not sure what you mean by "has this conditioned me" because I don't see anything that suggest that anything has conditioned you. How we are conditioned does play a huge role in the decisions we make however, you haven't given any reason to believe this is the case.

Consider this though... many people don't jump into things because they don't know people that are doing whatever it is and being successful at it. You have the benefit of seeing rather this project works or not with your brother. If you can clearly see that it works and are still hesitant then you may just have a fear of success but more so a fear of change. Because you know if you do become successful this will more than likely change your life.

Or, maybe you just don't like what you would be required to do in order to make the money. Maybe you don't like the product, or the strategies, in this case I would continue looking for something you can stand behind with good conscious.

It sounds like procrastination, and fear of either failure or fear of success.
Like the previous respondant said, you have not found your passion yet. Maybe you should try some new things recreationally, and meet some new people doing those things. I am sure that the social interaction and sense of accomplishment will motivate you to want to tackle more things.
Accomplishments can be quite motivating, and they also build self esteem. You may feel yourself being pulled in a direction or drawn to something.
Some people are goal-oriented, some are motivated by money or material things, and others are motivated by more intrinsic things, such as accomplishments. Some are motivated by their generosity of spirit.
To find out who you are and what motivates you, make a list of three things to do. 1-playing darts, 2-volunteer one hour on Saturday for several weeks at a humane society, 3-walk people's dogs for $5 for 30 minutes. (or whatever you want that falls into each catagory).
Find out what feels natural and good to you. Does it fulfill you to give to others? Help people? Help yourself? Provide a service? Make money? Teach people skills? Work on projects? Work as part of a team?
This could help you figure things out. Remember, whe you decide to try things, you have to get out of your comfort zone. Granted, is safe and comfortable to not be challenged, but you are not getting yourself anywhere by staying there. You may surprise yourself when you accpet challenges.....

You just haven't found your passion. Read I Could Do Anything I Want (If I Just Knew What it is) by somebody I can't recall. The library (big building with a lot of books - books being those hard things with paper inside your brother used to throw at you) should know what book that is and be able to help.

You do have to earn money, but that doesn't mean you have to earn a lot, or that you can't earn it doing something you love.

Don't go for an opportunity that doesn't appeal to you. You spend a LOT of your life working, don't be miserable for that time -- hold out for something you love and believe in -- or at least something that you enjoy reasonably well, even if it isn't your heart's first desire.

Perhaps pursue an advanced degree in one of the areas you mention in your additional notes (which I can't see in this screen -- more's the pity), and eventually teach.

there are those few of us in this world who just arent interested in money. people have to have a reason to do what they do. you have a job because you have to have the money, or you work on cars because its a passion. either way there is a reason to be doing it. it might sound like a great idea, but dont turn your passion into a job. ive done that twice and i lost interest in my passion both times. i currently have a computer repair company because i loved working on computers. i dont want to do it anymore. its not fun anymore. i'm not looking to make a fortune because money doesnt interest me. keep searching for what it is that you want to do with your life, you will find it. if you wanna talk about it i'm almost always around.

sounds like you don't want to do what your brother is doing. Why tie yourself down to a job you don't like simply fpr money and family. Decide what you really are interested in, and persue that.
