After asking the question whether Voluntary Euthanasia was ethical, the response seemed to be 60% for it. So the next question is how do we go about getting the politicians to put it forward and having it accepted. What do you think would be to get the politicians to vote this through?

The way to get this passed is for as many people as possible (the more the better) to write to their MP (or Assembly Member in Wales or Member of The Scottich Parliament in Scotland) asking them to support it.

BUT I think it would need an awful lot of people to do this before it really got off the ground.

I am entirely opposed to euthanasia. This is exactly the route favoured and taken by the Nazis. Okay, lets allow voluntary euthanasia, but where will it lead? It will lead ultimately to the state taking a person's life, claiming that they are in a vegetative state. Those who do not believe this are simply being naive.

If voluntary euthanasia became a legal right in English law, what of the doctors who refuse to carry out the necessary procedure. For many doctor's administering a drug for the purposes of euthanasia, is murder.

I don't mean any disrespect, but the fact that "60% are for it" does not mean that it is ethically correct. Ethical or moral truth is not based on public opinion. Maybe the original question should be: Why is euthanasia morally correct or incorrect? In the course of history, we know that "the majority" have not always voted for what is true, what is noble, what is just. Please don't base truth about morality on "what people say". It just doesn't work.

It is very controversial.

Everyone who has a temporary depressing moment would want it.

Suicidal wants are considered a form of insanity, therefore, the person "volunteering" is considered not competent to make that decision.

Catch 22.

Addendum: Isn't smoking a slow "Voluntary Euthanasia"?
