take everything out of your closet and try to identify where the smell is coming from. same thing happened to me -- turned out to be some meat that the cat had left in there.

Try spraying Febreeze all over your clothes and the closet. Also, pull everything out of the bottom of the closet and run the vacuum in there. You can also try hanging an air freshener in there. Or cedar things. At places like Organized Living (and maybe Bed, Bath & Beyond) you can find little cedar things that are made for the closet.

I think your first answerer was correct. This has happened to me a number of times. Probably a mouse has died behind the wall and it'll take a while for him to, umm, decompose. But the smell WILL stop eventually. Shouldn't be much longer. Meantime just take everything out like everyone else has told you and buy a couple bottles of Febreeze. That stuff works great. Maybe a couple of those odor neutralizer things too.

Febreeze will most effective superficially make the clothes odor higher for a short interval of time after you spray it. You have mentioned vinegar, oxy clean, salt, high finish detergents... It appears like you've got given it your exceptional shot! What temperature are you cleansing it on within the washing machine? Relying on the material your clothes are, you will have to comply with the advice the enterprise gives you in your garments. Relying on who makes your garments, in the event you've tried 'the whole thing', a brand new procedure you would are trying is via complaining to the garments brand, and asking what they endorse you will have to do to have your garments be odour free. I anticipate that they're purposely for working out, so that they should have a method of being handled competently. Otherwise, why promote them if they may be smelly after use?
