Harvest Moon Back to Nature Questions (Serious answers only please)?

Question

I'm trying to play this game, and I'm really confused about what the heck the blue blinking "here" pointer is for, because it appears out of nowhere and I don't think it's for a door since I can't always find a door when it appears.
Also, I'm at the farm where I should be able to buy a cow, and the bald dude won't ask me if I want to buy anything! I keep going back and all he asks me is "What are you doing here?"
And isn't Rick supposed to offer you to watch his chickens or something so you can get a free egg? I'm in spring 23 1st year.
Can someone clarify how the cheat with saving a cow from one file to another is supposed to work? Because I can see myself switching the same cow back and forth, how do you get more cows?

i thought you couldn't have a cow if you didn't have grass growing on your farm. just stock up on fodder, plant some grass, and go into the house during shop hours.

i think it's 11-4 every day except monday

"Cows and sheep can be bought from Barley at the Yodel Ranch, but chickens are raised by Lillia at the Chicken Ranch. You can have up to 10 chickens and up to 20 cows and/or sheep. You also get a horse for which to care (providing you treat it well) and a dog.

***********To be able to buy any animals, you must first plant grass seed (purchased from the Supermarket) in your pasture and cut it for fodder. ********

and uparmored is right about flirting with rick's sister to get the egg.

to do the switch cow trick, you need to have two files. pretty much, you need to have gotten pretty far in one game, far enough to have gotten a few cows.

you need to memory cards, and the farm names must be different.

all you do is trade cows from your more advanced farm onto your farm that just started. it's just a way of getting a head start.

The blue blinker "here" is for when you go behind a building or obstacle and you can't see your character, it helps you know where exactly your character is on the screen.

As for the bald guy, I"m not sure, it's been forever since beating this game. I'd check the book that came with the game to see if it says who to talk to.

I was nevered offered an egg from Rick, I bought all my own chickens.

The cheat: You have to have 2 different memory cards (i think) and two different save games. Buy a bunch of cows on one of them, then you can transfer them to your "real" game file through the save glitch.

You cant buy a cow until after the cow festival, same thing with the horse. To get the chicken you need to keep flirting with ricks sister and he'll ask you to take care of his chicken. To do the cow cheat you will need two memory cards and two games saves. Buy a bunch of cows in one game and then transfer them over to the other memory cards game save.
