It depends somewhat on your definition of "from" - the first Bush was "from" a northern state, but he no longer lived there when he was elected. Ford was not elected. Nixon and Reagan were from California, which is usually classed just as "Western" with no north or south. So I would say the answer is John F. Kennedy.

I don't know but the American Idol contestants who get more votes than the President of the United States are all from the South.
Though I'm from the North, I have a feeling that the South may generate people who are more charming.

Wait, you said elected... Bush was not elected.
George HW Bush was from Connecticut, originally.
Reagan was born in Illinois and was from California, which is a northern state -- it never allowed slavery.
