I think it would make me see what kind of person he is. Also I've wanted to see it before because my class watched half of it in year nine, and the class was making to much noise so we got kicked out and i never got round to seeing it. Also a girl who said it was her favourite film said it was a 'geeky movie' is it? What kind of people like Lord of the rings? Also any answers to my first question.

i had a roommate (guy) who loved the books and the movies. i wasn't interested too much in those kinds of movies or books. i sat myself down one night when no one was home and watched the first movie, no interruptions, just concentrated on the movie....i fell in love with it!! when 2 & 3 came out i saw them openeing day and bought them at midnight the day they came out on dvd!! you just have to give things a chance. like they say "try it, you might like it!" all different kinds of people like these movies, some gave it a chance just like i did. not just for geeks.

BE PREPARED. If you want to watch all three segments of the Lord of the Rings trilogy it'll take you nine hours (more like eleven hours if you watch the special extended editions). Some people may consider the trilogy "geeky" because it's based on fantasy creatures in a fantasy world with fantasy battles...but the movies are based on one of the most famous literary works of the past century, so the trilogy is worth seeing from start to finish at least once. Personally, I really liked them, but I'm also a fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, and some of your more unconventional off-the-wall comedies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, etc.

Lord of the Rings is not really a geeky set of movies. If you have read the books, I think you will like the movies more, simply because it is bringing the books alive. But by no means is it a requirement to have read the books to watch the movies.

Lord of the Rings was extremely successful in the box office because it spanned the gap of what people liked. Most everybody who saw it liked it.

Besides, why not watch the movies? Unless you are extremely against violence, I can't think of a good reason not to. And perhaps it will allow you a nice conversation piece when it comes to your guy.

I think you should watch it, its a great show! It's not my favorite by any means but I like it, and I have seen it more that once. I suggest you watch all of the movies in the series, & if you have the time read the books.

I guess it all depends on how into this guy you are, do you want to share a common interest with him, or just look at him blankly when he is talking about Lord of the Rings?

Reading the books may be a geeky thing, but I don't think the movies are geeky at all. They are brilliant (though long) and I know several people who aren't "geeky" who love them. I would really recommend seeing them. Especially the extended versions, because they explain more what's going on.

Yes, watching is good. But reading is even better, and may give you a better understanding of the film. Although, I have to admit, a lot of people who did read the books have become hard core fans.

lord of the rings is a great movie (my fav.) dont generalize peolpe on who likes the movie or not. It might be too long to sit and watch it in one day but its a good movie made with patience and with good depth to all characters.

It is a moving film, but see the Director's Cuts, as it goes into greater background information

It could be a geeky movie, but it can also be enjoyed by those who think they are not geeky. just remember everybody is geeky about something.
you should watch it, but i don't think it would tell you more about what kind of person he is.
