If you genuinely feel you don't pay enough in taxes (income, sales, excise, property etc), fees etc.... and you somehow feel guilty about it then why not just take out your PERSONAL check book and write a check to the government. That way you can feel less guilty and stay out of my pockets at the same time.

Underpaid is a personal problem, get a better job.
Benefits are just that, something an employer gives to attract and keep employees, it's not a right. Don't get benefits at the currrent job go find another.

I am in favor of a Flat Tax, like what Jack Kemp promoted in the 90's. It's a shame more people don't actually try to find out more about it before screaming that it won't work.
I would be in favor of doing away with automatic withholdings and forcing people to write a check to the IRS for their share. THAT would get more people riled up and wanting change faster than anything. When they never see the money that is taken away they don't feel it as bad. But to have it in hand and then have to turn it over, now that is a different story.
We need to get back to the basics of what our gov't is supposed to do for us and leave the social programs to private organizations that actually know how to run them. Anytime the gov't gets involved it turns into a huge mess that is ineffective.

I think that the problem isn't too much taxes...it's that we get too little for them, while corporations that would already be making profits of over $1 million per year are given massive subsidies. Most of the money spent by this Administration is going directly to corporations, and in turn to the 0.1% richest Americans. It sucks to pay taxes and see nothing from it but an illegal war of attrition against people that didn't even pose a threat to us! Wouldn't it be nice to have your health care costs cut by 2/3? That's what would happen with Universal Health Care. 43 million Americans do not have health insurance, and most of the people that do, are covered for so little, that many things aren't covered! Only the extremely wealthy can afford proper health insurance that has no limits or non-covered procedures! I'd happily pay higher taxes if I could see somethimg from it! I'd even be happier about paying taxes if the ultra rich would start paying their share!

When all the different taxes are added up, Americans pay much more that 33% tax on their annual income and property.

The question should read "How many working Americans honestly feel we are overpaid and over benifitted?"
The average working stiff is overtaxed because the government is giving welfare to the top 1% of wage earners in the form of huge tax cuts.

I divide over-taxing Democrats into two categories:
1) Those that don't work at all and benefit from a system that taxes the workers (i.e. welfare recipients)
2) Those that made "easy money" and are, therefore, more likely to give it away (i.e. Hollyweird types that "play pretend" and get paid way too much for it).
When I saw that the US budget included as much for welfare as it does for defense, I decided that I was paying way too much in taxes.

Yes, there needs to be more equity in the code, a thought out flat tax may be a good alternative.

I'd rather pay 20-30 percent of a decent wage than 5-10 percent of poverty wages.

I would gladly pay another 15% of my income if it would get universal healthcare. It is only following Christ's example.

The Liberals feel that we aren't taxed enough. I guess they feel an extra 20% to cover all this medical coverage that they seems to want would be good.
