You can tickle yourself if you touch your palm very lightly, or the soft part inside your elbow etc, but as for the type of tickling that induces writhing, squealy reactions - it's all to do with surprise. We laugh as a responseto our nerves being surprised by random stimulation. Obviously we can't surprise ourselves as we know what we're thinking!

because their tickles are unexpected or unpredictable. When you try to tickle yourself, your body and mind already know what it will be like....so no obvious reaction. That's the best answer I could give.

When you touch yourself the nerves where you touch are anticipating the touch and so do not react as strongly. When someone else touches you it's kind of random and therefore more stimulating.

when somebody else does it your body, brain and reactions are surprised but when we tickle ourselves the brain knows what is coming and has no need to trigger the defence mechanism.

I can tickle myself by tracing my skin. I'm pretty sensitive though.
