That depends on your purposes. If you do stuff that takes lots of processor power - video/image editting, play games with nice graphics, etc., then it would probably be better to get a computer. If you only do things like word processing, internet browsing, and you need something portable that you can carry around to places, then a laptop is good.
I'd say for general purposes, a desktop computer is better because you can get one for a lot cheaper than a laptop. You can also replace the parts and upgrade them for a lot cheaper. Unless you absolutely need portability, there's no need for a laptop.

That would fully depend on your own personal needs. I have desktops in my home office and use a coulpe as home servers as well. And then I have my laptop that I take to work, and to clients to have what I need with me while I am there. I also use a special program called logmein, that will allow me to work on my home computers files and printer when I am away. For portability go laptop. For other uses, I recommend going desktop. Laptops are limited in adpters and etc, whereas the desktop is normally able to be adaptive by add-on cards, etc. Desktops can also have more than one internal hard drive, whereas a laptop only has one. Desktops are cheaper to have repaired, and because they are so big are harder to get stolen. So really the choice is up to you, and what your own personal needs for a new computer are. Good luck. Depends on your usage
are you on the move? Do you not have the highest of requirements? Do you have a budget?
If so i would suggest a laptop
Do you want to play games? Do you want to be able to upgrade? (easily)
Then i'd suggest a PC
In all reality if you have no budget there isnt much difference in the two, but PC's are, for the most part, more powerful and much easier to upgrade, but the biggest con of a PC is the portability.

Depends on what you're going to use it for.
Repairs on a laptop are more expensive, and more expensive to upgrade.
You get more for your money on a desktop computer. (Since laptop parts are more expensive.)
