I ask how does it protect you? I can easily write a google search program that will return emails by searching for "at yahoo dot com" (2,320,000 results). search for "@Yahoo.com" and I only get yahoo websites.

Now spidering websites is harder because you need to have your own server running dedicated to that, and it is alot more code then simply using a google search program

A modern Internet e-mail address (using SMTP or Usenet) is
a string of the form jsmith@example.com. It should be read
as "jsmith at example dot com". The part before the @ sign
is the local-part of the address, often the username of the recipient, and the part after the @ sign is a domain name whi
-ch can be looked up in the Domain Name System to find the Mail transfer agent or Mail eXchangers (MXs) accepting e-mail
for that address.Addresses found in the headers of e-mail
should not be considered authoritative, because SMTP has no generally required mechanisms for authentication.

I think i might be the only person out here who got your point....

look dear!
Every search engines have some startergy which decides wht key word should be given priority and wht not.

search engine optimization is technique which says how to set a key words to top priority

there;s alot research been done,if they make some1 email searchable with just @domain.com...it would have been serious
flaw in operating a search engine.Coz it wld make it so vulnerable to everyone.

and to append your technical knowledge i have some points which a search engine like google implements

1> Priority for searches are as such tht they only search static or
permanently(may be dynamic website ip's) set webaddress not dynamic webaddress's .And email service provider provides you a dynamic webaddress.

2>Security measures are very important for a search engines, they dont want to help culprits to get a easy and handy information and missuse them. These measure/standards had been decided by IEEE and other Internet controling community

3> "@" no website or webaddress can have tht address in begining(i mean can never been used with wildcard refernce.)

4>Google database ...dont support sucha datamining technique which supports "@" searching.

5> Every email address has a Username which is considered as key for a websearch engine not the *smtp* authenticant "@" its just a part of protocol keyword ,,,which suggest routers to redirect them to email service provider server.

hope this would help! :)

Well, in the old days, spidering programs only looked for @domain.com to get an email address. Now they also look for "at domain dot com", so you have to take it another step further.

**a.t** domain ... com

or something like that.
