People love the challenge of someone new in the workplace.
Just be yourself and get to know them, one-by-one. At first they will just be a sea of faces, but behind every face is a person. That person could easily become your life-long friend.
Enjoy the experience and treat it as an adventure.
Good luck with your new job and God bless.
I read all of the above replies and awarded each one a point for their understanding and kindness. It goes to show, there is a lot of goodness in the world.
A great question with great answers.

Well first off Congrats on the new jpb. Second you wouldn't have the job in you were not the right person for the position. And finally try to relax as much as possible the night before, then think positive things rather than focusing on how nervous you are but all the new people you will meet - Most people understand that coming into an office where there are so many new people a person is going to be shy at first and it might take some time to open up - but try to be open to the idea :)
Good Luck :)

Being shy isn't a bad thing - sit back, watch and listen to what goes on around you until you feel comfortable. It is always best to try and work people out before you open up to them. Remember they are your colleagues, not friends. Another tip is to remember that the first few weeks always feel like forever! You'll be fine - good luck!!

I think they will be able to see the difference between shy and aloof. Once you look well turned out and make an effort you will be fine - otherwise you wouldnt have gotten the job.

the last thing your new colleagues would want is someone new who walks in there being overly forward and a know it all so you are actually on the right track - you will not come over as a threat or an irritation and as long as you don't project a 'snotty' image or come across as harsh (as some shy people do), just smile and be down to earth and you will be off to a good start.

You are very vaig with your question. Starting something new is alway quite dawnting. my advise to you is. Start the day with a smile. Say hi and hello to all those that you meet. And just me your self. Dont try and over impress. As they will see the change in you. Just do the job that you have been givern. Do it to the best of you ability. Dont seem to cocky with it. And befor you know it. You will of made friends. And you will be more relaxed. And looking forward to everday. Good luck with your new job.

If in doubt, ask people simple questions about themselves - where they live, how long they've worked there, what's their favrourite part of the job and so on. There's nothing people like doing more than talking about themselves (in the none insulting way, of course) and it's a great way to deflect your own shyness. That way people will think what a great listener you are and how selfless - this trick has always worked brilliantly for me. Good luck!

I'm also starting a new job this monday...As well as moving into a new house this Saturday! Best thing is to start off slowly I reckon, and in time it will seem like you have always been there!

Make sure when you're introduced to look them in the eye and give a firm handshake with a smile. You don't have to say anything except hi or nice to meet you.
