What is the going rate for house and pet sitting? I have been doing house and pet sitting off and on for the past year and a half and I never know what is a reasonable rate to charge for my time.

I thought it was free but that is for a live in position where your living rent free and free utilities such as http://house-sit.info

otherwise if your just visiting once a day to check mail and feed the pets etc but living outside the house then it should be paid depends on how much you will have to do and the tasks such as feeding walking pets having to be there at a set time for repair men coming etc
you would have to work the contract out with the owner pertailing to all that is involved

In any service industry, charge what the market will bear. If you quote a price, watch carefully how low the buyers lower jaw drops. See if their eyes become fixed, and they survey you as if to see if you are real. If they react by saying, "Great...let me have your phone number..." then you have not charged nearly enough. If they begin to laugh hysterically, unable to finish the transaction...you have charged too much.

Depends where you are. $10 and up per visit depending on what you do. Look in the paper or on Craigs List and see what other people are charging in your area.
