My school has this program called vision. It helps them keep an eye on what we are doing while on the computers. But everything is blocked so what's the point of watching us. Right?

They have every right, it's their a.ss should something happen to the child. Say some dumb person was chatting to a child preditor and ended up getting raped. Since the child did the chatting at her high school, the high school would be scutinized.

School computers are the same as office computers, they are rentals only and not meant to be used for personal use-even though sometimes people ignore that rule.

You have no private rights on a computer in a public school.

The argument will be that it is not your computer, it is the schools and therefore it is their business. I have mixed feelings about this personally, I do think we should be allowed some privacy but there are stupid things that stupid people do on the internet, and thereby ruining the experience for the rest of us. Personally, since I'm assuming your in high school or junior high, i don't have a problem with it. Your underage and need supervision (I think I just heard my 10 points fly away). However, should this be done to adults in college or the workforce? Touger question. I wish the answer was no, but unfortunately the idiots are still here when we are adults ruining things for the rest of us, trying to download crap and screwing up computers. I guess at least we have our homes, but how sure are we no ones watching that too ;-}

It depends, but basically while you are in high school you have almost no rights. Heck in many parts of the country they still have the right to beat you with a paddle without parental permission. So frankly them keeping an eye on you limits their liability and keeps children safe.

on the tip of the day, they're doing you a favour via letting you employ the information superhighway. they're under no criminal duty to allow you bypass online - it is not your _right_ - as a result it is not an infringement of your rights to computer screen your activity. They try this because of the fact there is often going to be somebody who abuses the privilege (it sounds to me like it would desire to be you!), so not all shoppers would be depended directly to apply it responsibly and truthfully. as a result they watch you. it quite is nicely worth noting that they have not blocked each and every little thing - there are new web pages daily and it is an impossible to checklist all of them of their blockading utility. additionally, it is not only porn that they don't desire you observing - what approximately non secular extremist web pages? Terrorist web pages? Hacking web pages? utility piracy web pages? Porn isn't the only component that a community administrator would not desire college infants observing. "do not chew the hand that feeds you" - ever heard that one? Rawlyn.

In this case, I'm afraid not. Schools are supposed to be responsible for their students and as such, in a way, they have every right to regulate what you're surfing as long as you're on their grounds. After all, I imagine there might be one or two hormonal stubbornly diffident people who might download porn for the heck of it or something to the equivalent without control so...

Of course, if you go home and the school starts to spy on you, that's a different story.

No. You are using THEIR Internet service. They've got a right to see what's going on within their network.

Besides, with all the crap on the Net, the way they see it is, "Better safe than sorry." Some things simply do not belong in schools.

Violation of privacy??

Get over yourself. You are using THEIR computers.
Do your myspace and crazy downloading crap and browsing on your own PC at home, so your parents have to fix it when you mess it up.

There are perfectly good reasons they watch every PC. To reduce the chance of Spyware, Adware, Viruses etc. Your school PC is for School work not your personal play time.

Keep it up and you will get busted.

You are at school.... School's are to learn! NOT to play games and download crap.... They have all right to do what they want and if you have a problem with it then you need to use your own computer!!!! Sorry but what everyone is saying is true.... Don't know what you were expecting????

I agree with everyone who is saying no. You are using THEIR equipment. Besides, when you are in school, you should be doing your schoolwork. If students didn't try to get to non-school-related sites, they wouldn't have to watch what the students are doing. Unfortunately the students have shown that they can't be trusted to only go to school-specific sites.
