It used to be the "Love of The Game" but it comes to money now. Each player is a separate corporation because of the huge amounts of money they are given.
The money is so big that the players are willing to do what ever it takes to get a spot on a team. Steroids, enhancing drugs of all kinds are no obstacles to the modern players.
