Um....you just know? :)

Contractions at the beginning of labor feel like menstrual cramps -- not really paintful, but you'll be aware you're having them. They have some regular cycle to them (length and time in between) and they get slightly stronger every time you have them.

I explained to my DH that contractions early in labor felt like someone was giving me a bear hug around my waist.

Like you want to kick someones a**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously they do but @ first they feel like small cramps and like you are having short breaths as is your breath has been taken away for a short period of time(a few seconds). The closer they get the cramping gets worse. When you start blurting out sh*t u normally wouldn't then ur fully there.I did it recently w/my 6wk old daughter and I didn't have an epidural and they got so bad I pushed her out on the bed w/o the doctor being in the room.Ha she was just laying on the bed.And she was a preemie(3pd3oz).Hell that sh*t hurts. Its all well worth it and you'll laugh later but to be sure just go to the hospital b/c I was 3cm dialated and I didn't even know. You don't want to have ur baby anywhere you see what happened to me so trust it can happen.Good luck!!!and Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me you will know when you are truly in labor. Your water will break or in some cases when your baby is due or over due your doctor will break your water for you. You will have a pain that will make you want to fly up off of that hospital bed. (Or at least that was me). No one can really tell you your exact pain. Everyone is different. But I will tell you that once you go through these labor pains and you see that beautiful face you will realize that it was well worth it. Good Luck to you!

I didn't feel anything like what the others described. I never felt any of my contractions in my abdomen. I felt them all in my back. It was almost like back spasms for me, but they were all pretty localized. Every woman has a different experience with pregnancy and labor.

You will know when you are in labour. It starts out like mild period cramps and it comes and goes they get stronger then weaker this is when you should start timing because sometimes braxton hicks feels like mild period cramps. If they come and go within 3 minutes of each other it's time to call the hospital and tell them your on your way.

You will have braxton hicks contractions and they feel somewhat like that. Your stomach will tighten up you may feel like you have to go the bathroom. When I went into labor with my son I paced back and forth and it felt like my stomach was in knots. If you have any discharge clear, bloody, anything go to the hospital

Typically speaking, true labor pains get longer, stronger and closer together. How they feel in terms of pain depends on your tolerance. All 4 of my preganacies were very different. If you have back pain, you should have your OBGYN check you out. Good luck with your new little one.

Your water will break or the doctor will break it for you. The beginning labor pains feel like really bad menstrual cramps. The intense pains feel like unbearable menstrual cramps.
